I think the price for removal storage and re-engraving is pretty similar, so just get an alternative price to ensure the firm the has the headstone is not ripping you off.

As you say it has to removed anyway, otherwise it would get damaged when they dig the grave.

It is a rip off, but usually at times like this, people just pay it.

But my understanding is not the cost but the fact that the did not receive any final instruction before they acted.
