  • Back to the old subs/bench rules for 2021-22

Since last November, clubs in the Championship, Leagues One and Two have been able to use as many as five substitutions in a game

EFL confirmed that for the new season we will be back to a bench of 7 and maximum 3 subs allowed on (from the temporary Covid rules of 9 on the bench and up to 5 that could be used).

Not sure it will make much difference to us - Mick seemed very reluctant to use his full quota of subs. It will hurt the high press high energy teams like Barnsley that used the temporary rules to the max.

For us it'll just mean no youngsters on the bench. I think there should be rules that the squad of 18 must have at least two youngsters named.

Dreadful decision as Neil Harris pointed in the introduction stage out it was great to have a larger squad as it helped him include more development players for chances to play and the experience of the match day .

I prefer the 3 subs, can have as many on the bench for all I care but the 5 subs, half the outfield team was a bit much.
