RIP Mike. He was Wales manager at the first international I attended, when we beat Scotland 3-0, with a Tosh hat trick.
Out of curiosity, why was he sacked from his first stint? Seemed to do a decent job. Think Mike England took over not long after that Scotland game. I know Mike England was in charge when we beat England 4-1 in 1980.

I think it was the failure to qualify for the 78 World Cup. Another reason to dislike Jordan.

He was manager during the Euro 80 qualifying. We got stuffed 5-1 by West Germany.

That is correct. Mike Smith's last game was a 1-0 defeat to Turkey in November 1979. Mike England's first was the 4-1 win over England in May 1980.

Smith had 6 games in charge in 1994, between John Toshack's single game against Norway, and Bobby Gould's first in March 1995.
