If a player ended up with long covid that could end their career. A friend of mine caught covid over a year ago and still struggles with breathlessness and had memory problems.
As Ryan Giles shows, the vaccine bis no guarantee, but why a professional sportsman would willingly take an increased risk of ending their career beggars belief.

Well we really don't know how he lives. If he is out every night at orgies then that's one thing but chances are as a professional athlete in 2021, for a 21 years old he is probably quite chilled.

You can take steps to limit getting it but ultimately if you live your life, see fam and friends, go to work, have any sort of fun, then you are open to getting it, maybe twice or more in the future.

Ditto. Put your feet up and don't get stressed which is impossible being a City fan I know! Being fanned by Jasmin-scented maidens while being hand-fed grapes helps enormously....apparently.

Neil Etheridge played 43 Championship games for Birmingham last season.

After his grim experiences with Covid-19 during the close season, he's played just one game this season - an EFL Cup defeat to Fulham. He's now the third choice goalkeeper at St Andrews and doesn't even get on the bench for Championship matches.

I didn't realise that. That's terrible for him.

It's awful isn't I? I think we'll hear a lot more stories like this over the coming years across all sports and professions. Grim I know.

He does have the consolation of a contract until 2024.

You only have to look at Neil Etheridge, on top of his game last season and now can't get into the Birmingham squad after covid.
