Apparently although they never met he became great friends with the actor and rapper Ice T on twitter

John Challis invented the laugh himself based on that of a woman who used to go to the same pub.

"....she would laugh and, if you can imagine Boycie’s laugh in a female fashion, it then made everybody else laugh, people used to come to the pub to hopefully hear her laughing.

It said in the script, ‘Boycie laughs at one of his own jokes.’ And I just did it and everybody laughed and Sullivan said, ‘Keep that in.’ It got into the scripts, ‘Boycie does one of his laughs.’ And I’ve been doing it ever since.”

For Fools & Horses fans who holiday in Majorca there is a great bar called Trotters with the car on the roof and memorabilia everywhere of these wonderful characters , brilliant quizzes which are so in depth you'd have to have a real love of the series to do well in them, run my a wonderful Spanish lad , shows all the footy as well .

I went on a touring holiday to Jordan in the early 90s for a week over Christmas (Aqaba, Wadi Rum, Petra etc). John Challis was also on the holiday. On the last day we went to the Roman City of Jerash, which is just north of Amman. There is a large outdoor theatre which dates from Roman times and the acoustics are such that someone speaking on the stage can easily be heard everywhere. The tour guide asked for someone to demonstrate and John volunteered and did speak.

I should say he was completely different to Boycie and did not have the moustache.
