Re: Tomlin Released
He's got to be on 25 grand a week, that's a lot of cash to forfeit.Originally posted by AfricanBluebird View PostWell, good point, but... if you were Tomlin would you prefer to....
have to come into training every day, be officially employed by city, attend all the necessary training and PR activities ... for 100% of your salary knowing you will never be fit enough or picked again....
Or
Take a 50% or 40% hit on our contract and be released immediately to pursue whatever interests you have - inside or outside of football.
Personally I would take the latter.
He can get another club in January in England, or abroad now (India?) if he is able to .. or pursue his other business ventures.

Re: Tomlin Released
Maybe things have been more complicated than you imagine behind the scenes.Originally posted by AfricanBluebird View PostI have no issues with Tomlin going but the timing shows a complete lack of footballing brains at the club.
Any decent football person would have recommended that Tomlin was offloaded, even paid off, in the summer so that we could have replaced him. Everyone (well obviously not everyone but certainly us fans) could see Tomlin would never play more than 10% of a season for us and his fitness and injury issues weren't getting any better.
Holding onto him hamstrung us in the transfer market and look at the state we are in.
Doing it now means that any replacement (and I doubt there will be) will be players out of contract who haven't even played since last season or had a pre season. They will be well off the pace.
However, they will still be fitter than Tomlin!
Some of the personal attacks on him though are OTT.

Re: Tomlin Released
But he’s never fit so changing to a different manager would make no difference whatsoever.Originally posted by BlueArmy 86 View PostIt will be annoying if we change to a manager who may have used him. He has to be one of the most talented players we've had in recent times, I loved watching him. Its a shame how it worked out.

Re: Tomlin Released
But I mean maybe he could find the determination to get fit if a new manager fancied him. Even if it was not til after Xmas, a half fit Tomlin improves us.Originally posted by ninian opinian View PostBut he’s never fit so changing to a different manager would make no difference whatsoever.

Re: Tomlin Released
Sad to see him leave but totally understand the decision. On his day, he was the most creative player we’ve had for a long time, and in a game like last Saturday, may have come up with a critical pass, for somebody to score. Like when Whitts was playing for us, I’d be disappointed if they weren’t playing that day. I don’t know if he has problems outside of football but I can’t get my head around, why some supporters, are so critical and judgemental about someone, they may only have seen for 90 minutes on a football pitch.

Re: Tomlin Released
Is there any other club that tears up contracts by 'mutual consent' i.e. paying up their contract, as much as we do?
Cala, Berget, burgstaller, eikrem, kimbo, ricky lambert, gary madine.
Sign a player on a two and a half year contract in January, release him in October.
Amateur.

There hasnt been much to shout about this last 3 years. The very few highly skilled moments we have seen have come from Tomlin. His free kicks against West Brom and Sheff Wednesday in the 2019/20 season were absolute beautys. His goal and assist at Leeds in same season are right up there too.
