I think the Geordies have it in their heads that they should be a top three side in the Premier League, from what I understand Ashley operated on a sensible budget and cut cloth accordingly, but that meant no huge stars on £100m transfer deals, they'll probably get that now with the new owners but it's no guarantee of success..

They got relegated twice under him.

I don’t think he was as bad as Newcastle fans make out but there was a huge lack of investment under his ownership, bizarre managerial appointments and a complete lack of ambition which led to those relegations.

He paid £134m for them in 2007 , sold them In 2021 for 300 million .

He ran the club for 14 years he must have financed something.
