  • Will Vaulks.

Not my favourite player in the current squad by any means and I don't agree with everything he said in it, but his pre game interview on the club website is well worth a watch if you can because, as he always does in these situations, he comes over as a likeable, intelligent bloke with his feet firmly on the ground.

Well he must have come across better in the video then the transcript of said interview which was on Wales Online where he more or less blamed the kids as the reason why we were in a relegation scrap, and blamed McCarthy for the fact he can’t pass the football.

No, Will, we are where we are because the seniors, yourself included, have been dogshit this season.

That’s why I said I didn’t agree with everything he said.

I’d argue that Sam Bowen had a 97% pass rate against Reading so you are talking through your arse Will. Yes MIck wanted to get the ball forward quickly but that’s no excuse for your inability to make simple passes when you tried, or you needlessly passing the ball into touch more times than I care to remember. That’s on you not Micks tactics.

So you can get as annoyed as you want. You are never going to be the type of player who dictates play, or sprays passes about, you haven’t got it in your locker.

To be fair we have chucked in a good few youngsters, replacing solid senior pros at this level.

I think realistically we were always going to struggle.

Senior pros haven't stepped up agreed but unless our academy is now suddenly producing 5 or 6 championship quality players when it hasn't produced that for the last 20 years then he has a point.

Shouldn't absolve himself of blame though as I still think with the spine of the team we have we shouldn't be struggling quite this much.

Most put a lot of blame on McCarthy for the style, I suppose he is just joining in.

Unfortunately it’s the modern way. Manager takes all the blame, players take no responsibility yet they are the ones on the pitch making schoolboy errors.

Sam Hammam said that City’s Academy would be working if it produced one player a season that became established in the senior team which sounds reasonable to me. However, the indications are that this is an exceptional group we have coming through, so I’d say it’s possible that we could have, say, three or four there who will become Championship quality players in the coming seasons. When you consider that the Academy has been falling short of Hammam’s one a season average for nearly all of the past decade, we are more than due the sort of youngsters we need.

think there’s some context if people hear the full interview; and the context that I hear is they have lost the experience of senior pros and you cant expect the youth to replace that. Hence he feels they need some additional experience in some areas. Not sure he is slagging them off, of blaming them

Just to add… ‘falling short for us’… i think there are a few players we have moved on that could have made it here. A sign that the academy was not maybe doing one a season but has been producing players that would never then be given a chance.

If Will could play football I'd probably take more notice of him.

I agree. Semi Ajayi is the obvious example but Tom Lockyer and Andrew Hughes have both found their way back to our level having been released, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they could have been in our side/at a higher level if we'd given them opportunities. There's a fair few other that have carved out decent careers despite not really being afforded opportunities here/being released like Regan Poole and Deji Oshilaja. Even the likes of Declan John and Tom James are playing in the EFL.

Have we producing world beaters? No. But we have been producing decent enough players who haven't really been given an opportunity by the club or have been given up on. Take Mark Harris for example, a lot of us had probably given up on him but now he's in the Wales squad and improving constantly

                            Good post

Aaron Wilding and Joe Jacobson have carved out lower league career too. Cameron Coxe has fought his way back into the EFL.
