BBC News - UB40 founding member Astro dies after short illness
The vocalist performed with the Birmingham-based reggae pop group for more than 30 years.

In their early days a band with a political message

Was never into UB40 but there's no doubting they were a very popular and influential band of their time, one of many who had a similar political message.

One in ten is a great track.

    RIP Astro.

Yes it was indeed. The first two LPs the band released are awesome. Then they slowly began a descent into blandness and into playing easy listening, watered down, poor versions of classic Jamaican reggae tunes

UB40 changed from being a band with a political message to being a bland covers band. You can’t criticise them too much though, as that change in direction gave them massive commercial success, including two US number 1s.
Watched a documentary on BBC iPlayer about them and the Campbell brothers are no longer on speaking terms and there are now two different incarnations of UB40. It’s a good watch.
Astro passing away follows the recent passing of Bryan Travers. RIP to them.
