Luis Diaz - Porto star

Anyone else read this BBC Sport article about Porto`s star striker who is their big hope for their game against Liverpool tonight?

He is a player who came from a very poor background in Colombia to go on to be one of the stand out players in the Copa America tournament (joint top scorer) and also prolific for Porto.

The interesting bit is the report saying that , whilst he was playing for his club in Colombia offers came in for him from Zenit St Petersburg and Cardiff City.I have never seen that mentioned elsewhere.

Who would our manager have been at the time? Not trying to change direction of the thread just interesting to see who may have been looking out there for talent.

Always did like these nice sorts of stories as well, always a feelgood factor about them.

Guessing it must have been Warnock looking at the timings involved? Surprised we haven't heard about that from Warnock himself if true, like the other players we apparently tried to sign after they went on to bigger things. Seems out of character for him, but then he did sign an Argentinian youngster at Middlesborough for a lot of money recently (who doesn't seem to have been setting the world alight). Of course we don't know how much of these deals are down to the manager and how much to other people in the clubs hierarchy.

I posted before looking for the article on the app, yes 2017 so would have been warnock.

Shame we are playing tonight or I'd have given the game a look. Too easy to forget how people live, when we get embroiled in our own existence! Seems he came up the hard way.

If Warnock had been in for the player who was joint top scorer in this year’s Copa America, there’s no way we wouldn’t have heard about it from him by now.
