Anyone recommend one for the family for Christmas?

Got the usual suspects of Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble and Cluedo.

    Got a young family.

    Try non board games :

These adult party games are ones you probably have never played and won't forget after you do! Perfect for game night, birthdays, and more!

Yeah, ticket to ride is good.

              Also recommend Settlers Of Catan.

                Qwirkle.

Simple to play. Don’t be fooled by its looks. Its more fiendish and strategic than a simple tile game.
We’ve had it a good few years and still play it with the same enthusiasm as the first time we played.
I reckon it’s suitable for 6 years and up. But its a game that can be played by people of any age. Once we play it with friends or family, they end up buying it straight after.
When my dad visited and played it for the first time you could see him thinking he’d hammer the grandkids. The game was too simple to lose at. His 7 yr old grand-daughter gave him a right pasting. Can’t beat the look on his face 10 minutes in when he realised he was getting absolutely stuffed and that the 7 year old was playing it at a completely different level to him.
                Can’t recommend it enough.

Dixit is a great game for kids, gets their imaginations going and is good fun

                    space team is good

castle panic is good if you have some bad winners/sore losers in the household, as you all play as a team and all win or lose together.

likewise pandemic, which is good but a bit too complicated for younger ones

Snakes and Ladders. Me. my wife and boy (He's 20) still play it sometimes just for a laugh. 3 Lives each and £1 in the kitty for each game. We stop when someone runs out of money. It's great fun specially when everyone is trying to blatantly cheat!!

Not a "board" game, but "Shot in the Dark" is a good quiz game, just a pack of cards.
You don't have to be a quizzer for this, the questions are "off the wall" - most answers will be guesses.

                        Agree with Dixit mentioned above.

Rummikub is a good game. numbered tiles 1 - 13 in four colour groups. You have to lay down sets of the same nummer or rums in the same colour.

Labyrinth is another one worth considering. randomly places direction tiles placed on a board with some fixed tiles and one spare tile left over. A number of 'treasure' cards are dealt faces down and players take turns in changing the route and getting the treasures.
