    Brilliant actor. He had a great innings - 94 years! "In the heat of the night" is one of my all time favourite films. It encapsulates the racist times in 1960's USA southern states.

            Was a very big star in the sixties, hadn't heard of him in ages until his death was announced though - was in some very good films (especially In the Heat of the Night), but I don't know anything he did from the seventies onwards. Apparently, Anthony Hopkins takes over from him as the oldest surviving Oscar Mens Actor winner.
