Re: printers
I have usually stick with HP (Hewlett Packard)...BUT BUT BUT....pay a bite extra and get one that uses separate colours and a b&W ink cartridge. Most of the cheaper ones come with a black and Tricolour...and they are VERY expensive to replace the inks. I used to have a HP 5520 but unfortunately this is discontinued.
If you intend to print a lot, consider a colour laserjet.

Re: printers
Have a look on YouTube, lots of good stuff on there.
Input your model number and you might get lucky.
It may be something very simple like changing your ink cartridges or you may have to clean the printer head using a recommended cleaning solution.
Or, it may be worth just binning the printer if it's an old model though as you can keep spending and spending trying to troubleshoot.

Re: printers
I've had an Epson XP-412 for years. A bit rattly, but it does the job. You can get cheap ink cartridges as well. There's loads out there. They're so cheap, it's dearer to buy the ink.
I tell you what's handy as well. I have a small printer that produces very good 6x4 photos. Excellent if you want to give someone a copy of a photo. Not that anyone does that these days... okay, I'll stop.
