It's human nature unfortunately. It's not even as if it's something they consciously think abou either, I'm very sure the refs try to do their best to be unbiased and professional but it's hard to be.

While I understand your point about refs trying to be unbiased, and let’s suppose from his position on the pitch he called it as he saw it… surely VAR is there to pick up things he couldn’t adjudge.
As a biased City fan I thought both decisions should have gone our way. If I were a neutral looking at the VAR, I would have concluded that it should have beeb a Cardiff pen, then the Liverpool keeper should have been sent off.
