Felt sick to my stomach after the Chelsea game.
I really thought had we held on and beaten them and all their superstars, which we were quite comfortably doing until that bent linesman had his way, we would have had the momentum and belief required to see us survive the drop.
That decision hurt us badly.

There is no doubt in my mind that the decisions against Cardiff City far outweigh those that go for us.

They really don't like us being in their league, the "best league in the world".

(10 for saying it at the time, another 10 for repeating it on the radio)

He tried to defend it but the powers won't ever go against their mates - he showed FOURTEEN examples of us getting a raw deal that season , only one went our way. We'd have easily stayed up.

Yes, it was never his fault for the mistakes he made that season.

Wayne Rooney booting one of our players up in the air .

It was an assault out on the street .

Should have been sent off , but nothing in the premier league have and have-nots decisions.

I get the argument that it's swings and roundabouts. If I remember correctly Bamba scored an offside winner against Brighton earlier in the campaign, so you can argue the toss.

But that Azpilicueta decision is one of the worst calls I've ever seen in football, let alone down the City. He wasn't just off - he was about a car width off. I never bought into the "they don't want us in the league" argument until that day.

I'd also wager that decision was a big factor in deciding to implement VAR (although, as others have said, it still doesn't stop the big clubs getting the big decisions).

The offside equaliser was quite late wasnt it? 81st? 82nd? As soon as it happened I knew that was it….killed us. Still managed to beat utd at OT but we were already down so no pressure.

Agree with Warnock 100%. Offside Decision was laughable. The idea of Azpiluecueta (spelling🤣) being a top defender is also laughable

Got to admit that Chelsea goal still grates with me partly because it was them who scored and also because it was so offside, but it’s the linesman (who still officiates in the Premier League most weeks I believe) that I hold responsible, not Azpilicueta - you can’t blame him for the linesman being an idiot.

What disappointed me most about the decision is that I honestly could not remember seeing a single City player even raising a hand to appeal for off-side, let alone raging at the linesman or referee.
If we had a player like Craig Bellamy playing for us, that decision would not have been accepted as meekly.
For example, when Bellamy was with us the first time in the premier league, one of our opponants in one game had a bang on the nose which caused a slight dribble of blood to appear. About five minutes later, City had a free kick between the edge of the 18 yard box and the touch line. Anyway, all of a sudden Bellamy started waving his arms around, and I initially thought “whats he blimmin moaning about now?”. I suddenly realised what it was, when Craig got the attention of the ref and started pointing to his nose and then the player with the barely visible nose bleed.
The ref went to call on the guy with the magic sponge, but Bellamy insisted that the guy had to leave the pitch for assistance.
That is the mindset of a top class player. He waited till the moment of maximum advantage for the team before drawing attention to it.

That incident and the one previously mentioned about Rooney booting a player up in the air, both involved Jordan Mutch.
Regarding that Liverpool corner, our two players were injured, but I recall that Mutch didn’t actually receive treatment from the Liverpool magic sponge guy, that ran on to assist, but Mutch did take a drink of water from one of them. The ref then insisted that both players had to go off, even though Mutch didn’t actually receive treatment.

People can say what they like about Warnock but his reaction to the decision at the end of the Chelsea game was brilliant - he just slowly walked onto the pitch and stood immediately in front of the ref and linesman with his arms behind his back, staring at them for at least a minute or so and not saying a word. I think the officials got the message ! Mind you, he was fined £20000 for his after match comments to the media. I think that the linesman's excuse for missing the offside was that he wasn't looking - it was the most ridiculous decision I have ever seen but I didn't appreciate the full ridiculousness of it until I got home and watched it back on tv.
