Re: Our defence
Would have kept Mozza but bow we need to keep Flint :thumbup:Originally posted by stan butler View PostDepending on wages we could offer a year contract with a option for us to give him another year .
We won't have many players left in the summer so i'd try and keep him and focus on the midfield.
I think we will sign one of the new strikers.

:thumbup:Originally posted by Rock_Flock_of_Five View PostNot many opposition attacks are coming down our right-hand side, due mainly to Cody Drameh. Bagan is starting to have the same effect on the left.
Then there's Wintle sitting central and helping snuff out the danger there.
The back three are definitely getting better protection.
Ng and McGuiness have mobility, that has certainly helped.
When you think back to the times we had Morrison, Flint and Nelson trying to play together, with constant 'under pressure' back passes from Marlon Pack... a recipe for disaster!

Re: Our defence
Sadly I doubt Morrison will return from that injury and play for us again, as it stands I'd prefer to see Nelson moved on as in reality hes a League one footballer.
Flint has earned a new contract on current performance but if offered it shouldn't be anything longer than 12 months. Time for Denham to grow into the role and a replacement for Nelson to be recruited in the summer.
I think a lot of players especially in the Championship will have a wake up call when new contracts are offered for the new season

Exactly, same could be said for posters who have written off Watters already.Originally posted by dembethewarrior View PostPosters on here were moaning about Hudson not too many games back asking "whAt thE **** dOes hE do"
Amazing what can happen when a coach gets more than the odd training session.

In the last 4 seasons Nelson has missed 17 matches. Those 17 games have seen 9 clean sheets.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostNelson gets dropped (or injured), the central defensive trio of Nelson, McGuinness and either Flint or Morrison gets dissolved, and clean sheets follow.
Amazing. Who’d have imagined it?

Re: Our defence
Seems to me that our current set up front to back is better suited to playing against ball playing teams than battlers.
Part of this is trying to stop those types of teams playing controlled football from the back and stopping their more creative players getting the ball in space. Might explain why Morison was so angry that Watters was not pressurising the keeper and allowing Coventry to build easily from the back. Moore certainly was forced to hit longer balls after Hugill came on.
We are definitely more compact and athletic in central midfield and there are, touch wood, far fewer instances where opposition midfield runners have got into acres of space between the midfield and a defence with a tendency to drop off to the edge of the box when confronted by this.
We don't yet seem to have ben as adept against teams life Millwall and Barnsley who are more comfortable with a longer ball game. Hopefully that will come.

I think Hudson realised pretty quickly that he had to completely change the line-up. January comes, and the problem is solved.Originally posted by dembethewarrior View PostPosters on here were moaning about Hudson not too many games back asking "whAt thE **** dOes hE do"

Re: Our defence
That he becomes a squad player.Originally posted by 2b2bdoo View PostWhat’s baffling?
He isn't RWB because we have a loan player there, and he's slotted in nicely at RCB. We are losing players in the summer.
Why would a young player with time on his contract become a squad player? Only asking, respect your opinion but this one just baffles me, sorry if that's too honest.

Re: Our defence
Nelson has been like a man in a mission this season, snarling at everyone and throwing himself at everything. I don’t think he’s a bad player, but he’s been a walking disaster zone this seasonOriginally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostNelson gets dropped (or injured), the central defensive trio of Nelson, McGuinness and either Flint or Morrison gets dissolved, and clean sheets follow.

It’s about balance too- him, Flint, Morrison, McGuinness all want to make challenges. Last season he was sitting off a bit, so I don’t understand what’s changed? Maybe he felt threatened with McGuinness coming in ?
Midfield changes have definitely helped, opposition has stopped slicing through middle and the one time they did ( Coventry after about 30 minutes on Tuesday), Wintle has shown the pace to tidy up.
Finger’s crossed it continues. I was a bit worried that Flint looked a bit weary on Tuesday- not helped by the ref mind, but he looked a little less on it than usual. Not really got cover for him as one of the 3 back there needs to be a leader/experienced - unless we bring the one man wrecking machine back in , which also means we lose some set pieces threat.
Given the contract situation we may have to try this later this season anyway.
( Although personally I’d like to see Flint stay at least another season)

Re: Our defence
Agree. It’s being rippped up enough. Need a nucleus to build on. He also comes across as a strong character which is going to be important with so many youngsters in thereOriginally posted by stan butler View PostDepending on wages we could offer a year contract with a option for us to give him another year .
