I think we will grow from within, as mentioned on other threads on the matter, Denham and Semenyo etc all seem poised to come back/step up and have a go, there's a route there now, but we can't rely solely on this and will need to bring in players, hence the thread.
Well he is 27 and his agent needs a last decent pay day ,wages will be silly as well as his agent has told him he's Messi like

Another potential at Centre back would be Luke McNally at Oxford.

22 years old and just signed from the Irish league this season, but has been excellent in league one apparently

Listening to the Nathan Blake podcast at the moment and they’re talking about another Oxford player Gavin Whyte. Despite his good stats and form this season, I’m still not convinced about him in the Championship, but I concede that the decision about him is tougher now than it was.

Basically, I still feel like I did back in January - I’d only look to keep Ralls out of those out of contract. Therefore, I’d say a young, lower division centreback like McNally is worth a look, but I think whoever it is needs to be out of contract in the summer.

I'm not sure how Gavin Whyte fits into our formation, or even where his best position is these days.

I think Whyte was more suited to the Warnock/Harris/McCarthy era and I hope we don't have him back now. Onwards and upwards!

I read an Oxford match report from the last game (maybe the one before) and Whyte was playing as a No 10.

That’s what I heard on a Podcast this week, I’ve not seen anything from him to indicate he could make a success of playing there in the Championship.

According to transfermarkt he's played there for the last 4 or 5 games, and has 4 assists and a goal in those games.

Would he be any good as a wing back? He seemed to be quite defensive under warnock (I know I know)

I've always wondered if he would, but it's such a crucial position in this formation it'd be a big risk to go with him when he's never played there

That would assume he knows what he’s doing. He doesn’t. People need to stop trying to make Gavin Whyte work. He’s not good enough and he’s playing as a 10/winger for Oxford. He’s not suddenly going to become a good wing back at 26

We need a list of Bristol City players who are out of contract this summer to get the conversation going.

I'm not sure either way, I'd edge towards not if pushed, but I just remember him being too defensive as a winger and did wonder if he could make an impact playing further back.
