  • Ben Stokes

What an innings yesterday, and almost 100 runs in a session ….. he also has 5,036 Test runs at an an average of 36.49 and 170 wickets at 32.15.

An exiting unselfish batsman and perhaps one of the best batting all rounders ?

England, and Joe Root in particular, have been crying out for a quality number three for ages and, with Stokes’ bowling possibly in decline, I’m sure he could play at three in years to come. Like Ian Botham before him, Stokes has a good defensive technique, but, unlike his Lordship, he has the patience to rely on it for long periods before unfurling his shots - England could do a lot worse than try Stokes at three.

      Brilliant all round cricketer.

His batting average should start rising. Hes better than 36 now.

He could do the job. But in my opinion Root needs to be there.

I wouldn’t argue with you, but Root’s always been a reluctant number three.

Stokes is such a talented cricketer and can play according to a given situation.
On his day a clever bowler with raw pace.
His batting can be explosive but also sensible.
The way he composed himself and controlled the match to virtually single handedly win the WC was just pure class.

If, and it's a big if, he continues to improve, adapts his bowling style to suit his age staying clear of injury, he could find himself regarded as the best.

Playing Stokes at three would be a real push. Possibly four.

I would rather Crawley play at 3 Root 4 and Stokes 5. Stokes' best asset is accelerating the scoring rate in the middle of an innings, not coming in with the score at 20 for 1.
Just need to find an opener or 2.

Thats the problem. No openers looking good enough.
