I've just got told our company has given a 5% increase to wages across the board. That realistically is a real terms pay cut but I think it's a fair raise

Public sector probably won't even get close to 5% - it's going to be a real squeeze for some people over the next few years

Theyve seen their pay go down in real terms for the last decade or more.

It's 1.75% more or less across the board for local government workers. But, that's only if you are top of your scale. If you arent, you would also go up by that, which would probably be around 5% in most cases.

I dare say more staff are at the top of their scale than not mind. Many will have just had it all as back pay for the last year as it took so long for unions to agree the level of the rise
