So let's say that a cheek pad like this actually exists. What is the purpose? It would be about 2mm thick and cover about 20% of the side of his face.

Is it supposed to protect him? A slap is going to hurt just as much with or without a plaster on.

If nothing else, why on earth would Will Smith want to sully the night of the greatest achievement of his acting career with something like this?
