Yeah this is pretty awful. Feels like the author would have been fine had it been a black person receiving or giving the slap, but when both are black then there isn't really an angle. Is everyone supposed to just ignore it?

Yeah it's a ridiculous take IMO. There's an entire industry churning out stuff like that at the moment

I originally wrote that bit about going to scream then followed it with, "the way I see it is:" and started giving my take on what happened but then half way through I thought "this is a f**king thinkpiece" and deleted it

I avoided watching it until this morning after hearing on the radio that Will Smith would have to live with it for the rest of his life and i have to say what a blown up load of shit that was.
People need to get a grip
