Re: Harry Maguire Booed
Southgate said about those booing Maguire:
"I imagine if you asked a few of them why they did it they probably wouldn't even be able to answer".
Oh, I'm not too sure about that. I would imagine they would put forward an argument that he's simply not very good. However, you would have to lay the blame on those who pick him for both club and country. So in a way, they're having a go at Southgate as much as the player himself.

Re: Harry Maguire Booed
Because he's shit. Not that I care, but he shouldn't be a vice-captain and an automatic pick for England. It was a friendly, I'd imagine the fans would like the chance to look at other options.Originally posted by WJ99mobile View Post

Re: Harry Maguire Booed
I don't follow the premier league enough to know his form or story, but it doesn't seem reasonable to boo someone who plays for the recently European Championship runners up, who comfortably qualified for the world cup etc etc etc. Is there some club rivalry thing going on?

Re: Harry Maguire Booed
Southgate was explaining that whilst he's not having the best season with Man Utd, that form doesn't affect him playing for England, which is why he continues to pick him.
Don't know if that's true as I don't watch either that much, but the same goes with him picking Pickford.
Either way, booing your own international player is pathetic.
Imagine how Welsh fans would react if we had a player who wasn't putting in great performances for his club each week, or even wasnt being picked, seemed to be a different player each time he puts on a Welsh shirt? Oh hang on a minute...🙂

Based on what? His performances for England?Originally posted by NYCBlue View PostBecause he's shit. Not that I care, but he shouldn't be a vice-captain and an automatic pick for England.
Maguire was ever-present as England finished runners-up in last year's Euros. They conceded just two goals in the competition. Maguire played consistently well and scored in the penalty shoot-out. Since the, he's played in five more internationals. England have won four and drawn one, conceding only one goal in the process.
His manager and his fellow players believe the reaction of some of the crowd last night was pathetic. I agree with them.

Re: Harry Maguire Booed
Based on his performances for Man Utd. He's not an £80m defender. He's slow and clumsy. He makes mistakes. Like I said, I should imagine England fans would want to see other options in a friendly. And I also I don't really care. So let's agree to disagree.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostBased on what? His performances for England?

Re: Harry Maguire Booed
pathetic to boo him, imagine if Wales fans started to boo players who weren't playing well for their club sides?
he's not a terrible player suddenly, and it isn't as though there's anyone else absolutely demanding a starting spot at the moment.
I would hate it if Wales fans started acting like this

Re: Harry Maguire Booed
I'm sure even you can see the criteria is different for a nation of 50m versus a nation of 3M. And for a friendly versus a must-win game. And for selecting one of the best players in the world over the last 10 years versus Harry Maguire. Also, Bale didn't start last night. Slow day in work?Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostAh, I see. So we're basing selection purely on past performances as opposed to current form. Righto...
