I thought that Smithies was excellent when we made the play-offs under Harris, but he hasn't really impressed since then.

As his contract has expired what will he be leaving for?

Perhaps I should turn the question around and ask you how he can leave on any type of transfer when his contract will have expired and he can sign for anybody he likes. The word transfer implies an agreement between two clubs. No such agreement exists in this case, if in fact he doesn't sign a new deal here.

No it doesn't. A transfer is a deal between two clubs. This wouldn't be a transfer. He could join anyone he likes when his contract finishes and City would have no say in it.

I saw him mentioned on a Forest twitter feed earlier today. Replacement for Samba, apparently, though to be fair, most of the contributors weren't that impressed with the idea.
