  • Thank you Smithies. Well done and good luck.

We have been fortunate to have some good keepers at City over the last 25 years.
    IMO Smithies was amongst them.

He was, but there have been some pretty awful ones as well during that time.

Since 1997, I can think of Hallworth, Alexander, Marshall, Etheridge, Smithies, Phillips, Heaton, Mcgregor, Murphy, Moore, Schmeichel, Warner, Forde, Margetson as our main goalkeepers who played in the vast majority of games. Not a bad list of quality really. Bit unfair to include youth or ‘back up’ players who have got games through injury, illness or possibly international call ups in the ‘awful list. Perhaps Day, Lewis, Bywater, Enckelman, Turnbull and Taylor qualify but they had good records at other clubs before/after. No argument over Konstantopulos though ! We have been blessed really overall in that position.

Encklelman, the bloke that lost us the FA Cup. That's the first thing I think of every time I see Kasper Schmeichel.

He was ok, not worth the money paid for him in fees and wages. Just a good solid championship keeper. Ten a penny.

I thought he performed really well in the season that we made the play-offs under Harris, but he's been nothing special in the last couple of years.
