We were promoted *** to the prem league :thumbup::thumbup:

*** Of course we were playing In red, so that promotion might not be counted in your eyes, but for the rest of us, it was promotion

Didn't count? Who said that? It happened. It's in the books. It was less enjoyable. And quite embarrassing. As was the following season. It definitely happened though.

      This.
I'd still rather forget it though.
As bent out of shape people got about Neil Warnock,
that promotion will always be more comfortable and enjoyable to me.

Neil Warnock was absolutely brilliant for us.
I've no affinity for Malky at all tbh...not least because he invariably used the word "invariably".

No way was our second promotion more comfortable than the first one if you’re using that word to describe how we went up rather than your own feelings about it. You only need to go by the dates we were promoted to get all the evidence you need that we were a cut above the rest of the division in 12/13 = Fulham, who are generally regarded as clearly the best side in the Championship this season are going to be officially promoted later than we were in nine years ago and we’d started a run of drawn matches by the time we went up , so it took a bit longer than was expected at the time. The 17/18 promotion was more exciting in that Fulham pushed us all the way and it was well into the final match in early May before we could start thinking we were definitely up.

The promotion in red wax a complete sham

I will never forget the photo of that grinning idiot with the pathetic CARDIFF red scarf held high

          Nightmare

Great for the part timers and those only there for Liverpool and they soon vanished

Apart from the red I vaguely recall the end of that promotion being a bit of a dull one, 3 wins in the last 13 was it and quite a few draws. Not that I went to any of them….
I guess the work was done early in the season. Warnocks one was better for me as it came from nowhere

So do fans support the Club or the colour of the shirt? City weren’t the first side to change the colour of their shirt, in fact the colour of the Club’s shirt originally was brown and amber quarter’s. The fans then didn’t kick up a fuss :sherlock:

Good old Cleve! That's just what this board needs in 2022 - a rebrand debate!

                  :hehe::hehe::hehe:

Incidentally, you're right when you say the first known colours of Riverside (the club that eventually became Cardiff City) were brown and amber quarters. However, Cardiff City never played in those colours. By the time the original club had merged with rivals Riverside Albion in 1902 and was allowed to change its name to Cardiff City in 1908, the team was playing in blue.

As for the fans not kicking up a fuss when the club changed its colours to blue, the truth is it didn't really have any, or at least no more than a handful. It didn't even have a proper ground at that stage. Indeed, as late as 1908, the club was denied admission to the newly-formed second division of the Southern League because it didn't have an enclosed pitch, turnstiles or adequate spectator facilities, and it's earliest friendly matches against professional teams such as Crystal Palace and Bristol City were staged at the Cardiff Arms Park rugby ground to enable to the club to charge entrance fees.

Nothing takes away the fact that it was an incredible achievement by Malky and the team.

Jones left the squad in a right mess. 2 years later a Football League Championship which we basically won easily after a Carling Cup win.

                      Some enjoyed it.
I know two elderly long term supporters whose dream of seeing us in the top flight came true regardless of colour.
Both passed on before we went up under Warnock so to them it was a dream come true.

For me it was a shit show although i have to admit i did enjoy some games..

By contrast, two very good friends of mine (and two guys who were regular and valued contributors on here) saw the re-branded Cardiff City get promoted and it meant little to either of them (one had boycotted the club altogether, the other went home and away far less frequently and had lost much of the love he'd for the club). Tragically, neither lived to see the second promotion under Warnock.

I should have added that many thousands enjoyed it - although plenty pretend they didn't in retrospect, despite their celebrations at the time

Also on this day, 21 years ago and also in a promotion season, we drew 3-3 with Chesterfield

Didn’t happen, boycotted, won’t watch highlights, bollocks to the red and the fans that actively encouraged it.
