  • Hull City Centre

For a large city the centre was totally dead , lots of pubs closed and not much going on.

Even the taxi driver was saying business is awful. I suppose it shows how busy Cardiff is in comparison, or is Cardiff punching above its weight and bucking the trend ?

Cardiff has got a lot busier lately but we are lucky the centre is actually quite small for the size of the city itself so it feels busier

I'm guessing a large student population helps. I know Hull has a university but Cardiff has several others that feed into the student population. All those new accommodation blocks, that's where the money is. The general population is pretty skint and about to become skinter

Students would not be included in the population statistics, that said it must help

One thing is for sure, the Young Ones style student eating 3 day old lentil stew has long gone. They are now the ones with the disposable 'income' keeping the service sector ticking over

It’s a bank holiday. I can’t imagine Hull is much of a tourist destination so there’s probably a lot more who left for the weekend than came to visit.

                        Trevor Bolder too.

                        It's still a shithole though.

I’d say probably 10% at most of the ‘indigenous’ population are locals aged 18-25 which is about 30-40k

                            Outnumbered by students.

Although some- like my kids- are both 👍
