My uncle surprised me and picked me up from Gabalfa primary. I was football mad but it was always Man Utd, Liverpool etc. at the time. I was 7 and not even sure if I knew what Cardiff City was.

We beat Ebbw Vale 7 - 1 in the 3rd round of the Welsh Cup that night. I remember an own goal, an absolute bullet of a header into the net at our end. And I'm pretty sure little Carl Dale stole the show. I loved it but wasn't in a position to go regularly until much later on.
Your memory's playing tricks on you - City's last season in the Welsh Cup was 1993/94.

The Bluebirds did beat Ebbw Vale 3-0 in February 1994 in a Welsh Cup 5th round replay, though. Carl Dale was coming back from a long spell out with injury and was a late sub, but he didn't score. The goals came from Garry Thompson, Tony Bird and Phil Stant.

Although I was there, I don't remember anything about that game, but I do remember the first game at Ebbw Vale. A really grim 1-1 draw, Darren Adams scored a fine goal late on and it was just about the coldest I'd ever been at a football match.

My first game was Leeds in the fa cup 1972 I don't have any memories of the actual game I just have this vague memory of getting the bus with my dad and brother.
The first game I remember being at was when we beat Sunderland over the Christmas period of 1973 I think they were the cup holders and we beat them 4-1 ?
Also that Sheffield game when the city player got subbed off and threw his shirt at the manager sticks in my mind as well I'm sure we were in the enclosure because it happened right in front of us.

That one against Sunderland when they filled most of the ground and Bishop scored (79/80?). I think that was my first but I was also on the Bob Bank for Buchanan's exocet v Jacks, so maybe that was slightly before.

Please don’t take this away from me TLG, I swear it happened! Wiki isn’t the most reliable source but it’s all I have:

You can see the game in City’s route to the final - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995...e_Final%5B2%5D

Yes, all correct on that Sunderland match and the player who threw his shirt at the manager (and gave a v sign to the crowd) was George Smith in a miserable 0-0 draw against a Sheffield Wednesday team marooned at the bottom of the table in 74/75 when we also went down.

Not looked this up, but I think you’re right about the Sunderland game and the Swansea match was at the end of 1980.

Although I can't remember it, I can confirm your game did take place on 7/2/95 and you were in a crowd of 1,292. City's scorers were Tony Bird, Gary Thompson, Mark Aizelwood and there was an own goal before Carl Dale scored a hat trick. Ebbw Vale played in purple/claret and white and former City players Paul Giles and Dean Holtham were in their side.

Apologies, the 94/95 Welsh Cup results aren’t in Richard Shepherd’s ‘definitive’ record book and I could have sworn the Barry Town debacle was City’s last foray in the competition.

So, your first game was a 7-1 win but your first season ended in a dismal relegation. My first game was a 0-0 draw 20 years earlier and the season ended in a dismal relegation. What a club….
