it can be done via " intensive courses " at skills centres ( as we ( both you and I ) used to know them as )

    Lv 1

10 days in a skills centre

this would certainly open the world of being employed as a plumbers mate ( as we used to call them ), they start every few weeks, so could be done with taking 2 weeks holidays

This 10 day level 1 plumbing course is aimed to give you enough skills to develop your expertise to a career in plumbing. 10 Day Intensive Plumbing Course

its certainly doable, I looked at it for training to be a " sparky " only last year

I didn't read that as being disadvantaged. The comment was about taking risks can get you ahead of the game. Taking risks is not for everyone, but as you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, if you don't take risks, you cannot complain when others do and reap the rewards.

This does appear to be a difficult issue for some to grasp.

Local councils offer help with training costs

Don't become a plumber then if you haven't got the money for the training, become something else like a HGV driver, the World is your oyster!

Replies are generic and may not apply to some people, but should apply to most!

Because it's a big bad World and if you don't get yourself out of a porely paid dead end job, no one else will!

                    Those courses are mostly shite

You become a plasterer or a dry liner through being taught properly not spending a week flying through too much information

which is what I always thought ( being a time served carpenter ) but the way the industry is, they need bodies, so if its a " foot in the door " then its got to be a start
