      Re: Pub Closures

The purpose of a pub has changed years ago brewers would look for the smoke stacks of terraced houses alongside mines and steal or other heavy manufacturing areas where working classes would walk to and from work past the pub , the same aged workforce now are behind car wheels , PC 's or at home .

Community sprit , support , happiness , well being , and social company has in my mind impacted on the lonely and elderly and potentially mental happiness with eh closure of pubs over the decades , not just recently .

I love a real pub and thankfully not every area has given up that wonderful old fashioned small pub , no television , no juke box London has some cracking old original pubs , not cheap but authentic and they use that , they still have the chandeliers dark wood and snugs in some , Oxford , Bristol is great as well , sadly we have sold out , in part I blame the monopoly of Brains for that ..

I go through town centres , Bridgend for example and there is no crowd of any sort in any of the pubs

It's really sad when the pub is part of the community but many has been losing the will to live for many years and covid has finished them off
I'll give you some credit, you have a helluva brass neck on you.

Every day you're leaning against the bar at the Vale of Glamorgan boozer, Cowbridge's bluest of blue Tory pubs, swigging Pimms while breaking wind.

That ridiculous cravat you wear, your abject contempt for anyone who hasn't at least BMW parked on their drive and your censorious whining about Boris Johnson's exit is insufferable.

You, sir, are a premier league rotter.

              Re: Pub Closures

The traditional pub has lost its way, a few have mentioned the prices, have they simply got too greedy ? ? ? ? every town in the UK had a 'spoons, these always appear to be fairly full of people ( from various walks of life ), I certainly know the one is Bath is always full and turning away people in a evening, yet just around the corner you can walk to 5 pubs and they all had only a couple of people in

There are still good boozers to be found even in town.
The Borough £3.50 a pint for decent Guinness .
                            I still like the Traders.
The Butchers in Canton £3 for decent IPA smooth.
I like Chapter in Canton a good selection of Ales a bit more expensive as is St Cannas and crafty Devil.
I really missed pubs in lockdown so glad we've got back to some normality.
I struggle to sit in the house drinking cans I just find it depressing.

Here in the town centre of Barry we've lost The Castle, The Windsor as well as The Seaview and Barry Dock Cons.Further east The Admiral, Three Bells , Cadoxton Royal and Dockers are all now a memory as well. As the docks and chemical plants have declined so did all these places sadly. It's also affected the local football leagues as all these pubs ran teams. Not so long ago there were four divisions now we're down to just two.

Just heard that the landlady of the Wolves Castle in Llanishen, has been told to clear out by the new owners, Marsdens.

Whether they are putting someone else in is not known yet.

Apparently locals are going to boycott the place as she was very popular.

Story should be in the echo tomorrow or Saturday
