I loved the Brazil 82 side, they just attacked at will, Zico, Socrates, Eder... they were special, but lacked discipline. Oddly enough, i was the complete opposite over the Brazil world cup side in 2014. That game when Germany destroyed them was one of the most enjoyable and funny things that i had ever seen. Not just because they were hosts and banging out their anthem twice before the match, but because after 25 minutes they panicked and completely lost all discipline and shape, Humiliated! The only thing i can compare it too personaly, is when i returned from holiday as a 16 year old and my mother had tidied my bedroom for me, she'd found my stash of Penthouse, Escort, Readerswives magazines and stacked them neatly on my side cabinet!

Too young to remember Mexico 70, first WC I remember is Argentina 78 and my favourite international team of all time, when it comes to brilliance is the Brazil side of 82.
I’ve only ever seen highlights of the Brazil team of 1970 and that goal scored in the final is a thing of beauty, one of the best, if not the best goal I’ve ever seen. Also, when Pele dummies the Uruguayan keeper, has to be one of the most outrageous pieces of skill ever. Just a shame he put it past the post, as for me that would have been the greatest goal of all time.

I saw Carlos Alberto play for California Surf against the San Diego Sockers at Anaheim Stadium in 1981 (yes they were both real team names).
Deyna, (ex Man City who died tragically a few years later) and Charlie Cooke (ex Chelsea) also played in that game. I only went because the legend Carlos Alberto was playing.

1970 was the best World Cup I’ve seen (the first one I remember is 66) and Brazil’s team in that completion the best international team I’ve seen.

In total agreement with you there Bob. Very difficult to compare sides from different eras so it comes down to personal preferences and for me that Brazilian side was something else. I just loved Rivelino and spent hours over the local park trying to bend free kicks like him.

Two other things of note. It was the first World Cup I'd seen in colour, which was just fantastic but on the downside, the WC coincided with my O Levels, my exam results being a reflection of my missed revision time. Well that's my excuse anyhow.

By the way I thought the 1970 England team was their best ever but that's a discussion for another day.

All captured live from the other side of the World… All in colour too… All after playing football in the street with my friends for seemingly hours on a glorious summer day, forgetting about time, and my Dad coming out to tell me the game was about to start. Someone will probably correct me, but it must have been around 10pm.

Greatest goal ever? Not even close for me, but you should never ever compare eras for goals. That sort of goal, there’s about 10 a tournament of them now but was revolutionary at the time. You can say your favourite and my favourite is Van Bronkhorst v Uruguay

Greatest team then that’s a bit easier to debate. It seems they were so far advanced of the rest of the teams you could say so. But same could be said about some of the others like the Dutch.

If you put them against a World Cup winning Spain, they’d get turned over like a pub team, but it’s all about eras.

For me, Brazil 1 Germany 7 is the most extraordinary result of all time, for all those reasons. I've never seen another game where I just could not believe what I was watching.

It's not like us beating Leeds or beating Germany when they were world champions. This was a totally different level to that.

Bit of a shame Germany eased off in the second half, and that Brazil scored that consolation.
