We've conceded a goal a game. The last 4 times we had such a defensive record we won promotion.

Re: Lay off our defence
So you think Ng as a centre back in a back 4 is okay then?Originally posted by Eric the Half a Bee View PostWe've conceded a goal a game. The last 4 times we had such a defensive record we won promotion.
I doubted whether this post was serious but I have to assume it is given your usual penchant for backing things with stats.
Sometimes stats don't tell the full story Eric.

I have no firm opinion either way of Ng, I just know that we've been relatively tight at the back overall.Originally posted by Ninja View PostSo you think Ng as a centre back in a back 4 is okay then?

Whether we continue in this vein, I don't know, but if we end up conceding 46 goals when it comes to the end of the season, defensively it will have been a success. We've kept more clean sheets than any side in the Championship bar Preston. Only 5 other sides in the Championship, League 1&2 have as good a clean sheet record as us.
I have read Bob's blog as always, and he's right about us being bullied. I said it after a recent game and it's more worrying for me that teams will have worked this out. For all the passing, we don't do the ugly things well enough.
Last season we were regular poor starters but one of the best at turning games around. This season we haven't managed an equaliser yet and every 1-0 deficit has seen us lose our heads and turn it into a 2-0 deficit. We have once lost a lead (and lost the game eventually). That suggests we are lacking in confidence.
Yesterday's goals were disappointing, the second one was dreadful by one player. Whether that's a trend that will continue, who knows? All I know is that we'd been solid enough at the back for the last 2 games to have been a blip defensively.
For me the biggest worry is still that we're not taking our chances. Had we not hit the post from point blank range and taken the lead, it might have turned out differently. Of course, if my aunty had bollocks she'd be my uncle.

Re: Lay off our defence
The fact that Ng doesn't look physically strong enough in a back 4, coupled with Nkounkou looking like a midfielder who's weak defensively, I would say gives people every right to criticise the defense or at least, the selecteions by Morrison. 2 of our back 4 were poor yesterday, that's half obviously. We also conceded two goals and that easily could have been more to a better attacking team.
I understand you not wanting to hear the criticism, no City fan wants to criticise. We all want the same thing, to see our team performing well and getting results.
They're not though, and it's natural that fans will point out the weaknesses that they see.
Yes we have major problems up front, but we would be foolish to ignore the deficiencies at the back.
A clean sheet yesterday would have meant a draw and a point. Those points could obviously be the difference between us having a comfortable season or finding ourselves in a relegation battle.
Trust me, I don't want to be negative or critical, but a lack of goals and a leaky defense is about as worrying as you can get in football!

Re: Lay off our defence
Yet, despite everything you say, we still have one of the best defensive records in the country as things stand. Only 5 sides have faced less attempts at our goal than us, so it's hardly as if teams are strolling through us.You make it sound like we've been extremely lucky not to have conceded lots more, but there's no evidence of this at all. I read someone saying we're liable to concede from corners due to our lack of height, but that's hardly happening. Look at that in reverse - when we had a very tall side, we'd expect to score regularly from set pieces, but we failed to score from the vast majority.Originally posted by Ninja View PostThe fact that Ng doesn't look physically strong enough in a back 4, coupled with Nkounkou looking like a midfielder who's weak defensively, I would say gives people every right to criticise the defense or at least, the selecteions by Morrison. 2 of our back 4 were poor yesterday, that's half obviously. If I read you correctly, we have a defence that should be conceding lots more, which according to any stats you want to use for comparison, is bollocks.

I said we were lucky not to concede more yesterday, nothing more than that.
You choose to ignore the obvious failings in this squad/manager. That's your choice.
However, you have no right to demand that others ignore them, or stop talking about them on a public message board!!!
