Bills are a huge chunk of our expenses for my place of work. If they double we go out of business.

No, I'm a pragmatist and I see an announcement which is an enormous intervention in the energy market to mitigate for the effects of a war to ensure that people don't face devastation this winter.

That all you and others can do is moan and find fault says it all - limited concern for the people in question, all about party politics and a desire to moan.

It's about a government needing to help the people who need help the most.
People on benefits will now suffer the most and suffer, they certainly will.
Liz has already made it clear that she has no love or care for anyone claiming benefits though so it comes as no shock whatsoever.
I feel for the elderly. She clearly doesn't.

Well, it is to the extent that it could have been a lot worse. However, we’re looking at a monthly increase of over £40 compared to what we’ve paying now and, although I’ve not seen confirmation of this because everything has suddenly switched to being about the Queen, I assume it’s still in the form of a loan that we’re going to have to pay back. This seems grossly unfair when certain people and companies are making obscene amounts of money out of this situation - the lack of a windfall tax appears to be based on nothing more than dogma.

First, well done to Liz Truss on taking immediate action. Boris could and should have done something but too busy writing his book in time for Christmas.
Secondly there seems to be a misconception about who and what ' we're going to have pay back means'. Of the £870billion that is the annual tax take by government, less than a quarter ( £208b) comes from income tax. In fact nearly half the UK adult population pay no income tax. The majority of the tax take is from business, particularly corporation tax on profits. Business needs a stable environment if it's going to invest in UK and surprise windfall taxes might give short term gain at the cost of future investment.
Another fact not generally aired is about the wealthy fat cats ( I'm not one). This 1% of the population pay nearly a third of the UK income tax.
I don't want a load of bullshit about me being a tory etc etc..I'm just laying out the facts

Again, you are just plain wrong. Universal Credit recipients are getting £750 extra that others are not. Given that poorer people disproportionately pay more on bills, then they were most at risk from huge rises in bills.

Again, you are just plain wrong. Universal Credit recipients are getting £750 extra that others are not. Given that poorer people disproportionately pay more on bills, then they were most at risk from huge rises in bills.

What you are saying is just incorrect.

Check your facts.
Not all UC claimants get that £750.
Those that don't will suffer greatly.

The energy price cap will operate so the unit price for gas/electric will be set so that the average user will pay around £2500 a year. Use more and you'll pay more, use less and you'll pay less

Socialising the losses as usual. Energy companies will continue to make massive profits, shareholders will be paid the same dividends. We continue to pay inflated energy prices but we’ll also have to pay the loans back for the rest our lives.

It’s much better than nothing but anyone seeing this as a complete positive must be pretty dim or biased.

Isn’t it a fact though that the gap between richest and poorest has grown (I won’t use the word exponentially:hehe:) for the last twelve years and continues to grow? I don’t like the new fangled term optics, but I’ll use it this time - in the context of the cost of living crisis, the optics of what is essentially the Government trying to justify the rich getting richer is terrible

You make a good point and I do think that's the case. Many people though think of the rich as from inherited wealth or big business fat cats. In fact many who have made obscene amounts of money have done it because the likes of you and I are willing to spend our money to support them..be it pop stars, film stars....or football stars.

Those that don't will suffer greatly.

Apologies, it is £650, not £750. Which is on top of the £66 off bills a month.

It states here that anyone on the following will receive it:

Universal Credit
income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Income Support
Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit
Working Tax Credit

Poorer households absolutely ARE getting more support than wealthier. It's completely untrue to claim otherwise.
