Can anyone help with understanding something on the Racing Post pages?
I've looked everywhere trying to find an answer but can't seem to find anything.

    The issue is this -

When they print a horse's weight for a race, they put the claimers weight claim in brackets nearby. What they don't tell you is whether the claim has already been taken off the printed weight or not.
Does anyone know how it works?

If the weight is 8st 7lb for example, and the jockey is claiming 7lb, has the claim already been accounted for in their stats, and it is running at 8st 7lb, or do I take the 7lb off and assume it is running off 8st only?

The horse would be allocated a weight and that would be the weight shown on the card. If the jockey has a claim than that weight can be taken off. So in your example the horse could race with a weight of 8st.

      Cheers Hilts, appreciate that
I try and steer clear of the stats and figures generally as they're a bit much and can be a bit misleading.
Wanted to be sure about the weight thing though for obvious reasons!
