Thinking further I am going to have two forums. The main one which will be as initially designed as Cardiff City, football, sport, entertainment and help.

The alternative will just be the other stuff that drags the main board down. Politics, religion, trolling posts, spam etc.

Please PM me with any concerns anyone has about the way a thread is going or deliberate trolling by posters you suspect of causing trouble and I’ll look in to it.

Do we have any level headed apolitical people who want to be a moderator. Just to lock or delete threads that you feel are going the wrong way? I can then look into them. Also going to look at user moderation as I think it’s too easy to get a new multi account.

As many who have replied have said we don’t want to lose the spirit and the general feeling of community but we have to stop the troublemakers and those who stir up shit for the sake of it.

This board has some of the best people and very helpful.
Then a knob turns up.
Do not change the board just be more proactive in weeding out the bad posters.
Good post,also the good posters out number the bad.
I have found so many helpful people on here and not just with advice but actual help.

This is just my opinion, but if you start creating lots of different sub-forums, the upshot will be:
1. That they won't get used - or if they do, the majority will not bother to read them. I can't remember the last time I went anywhere other than the main forum. And..
2. It will take away a lot of the variety that makes the main forum what it is. Here, you can read about football, local issues, humour, other news stories, help wanted, plus just general chat, and it's all in the same place. It's good.

The main issue is not the variety of threads. After all, if someone posts a rubbish comment, then it soon sinks to the bottom and gets forgotten. The main issue is the bullies, who disrupt almost every thread with their sarcasm, point-scoring, and nit-picking. I'd love to say there are only one or two people involved, but I think there are closer to seven or eight.

Perhaps there should be a 'report' button. Accumulating 'reports' might lead to a short-term ban, for example, though I'm sure the usual culprits will find some way to abuse that system.

You're not going to change it, it's as you say. The last 48hrs the board went into practical meltdown over the Queen's death and related matters. By yesterday afternoon it seemed all spleens had been vented. I'm not sure CCMB is a 'football messageboard' any more as it appears those who actually go to matches are in a small minority and most who post after a City home game have spent the afternoon in their armchairs. [ ex- pats etc. excluded].

I agree with Dave's OP and Mike's response.

A simple solution is to just ignore the troublemakers. They're pretty obvious, even their multiple accounts.

If no one rises to their bait they will, eventually, get bored and go elsewhere.

Couple that with strict moderation, removing anything remotely political to the politics section and swiftly deleting obvious discriminatory post and this board will return to some semblance of normality.

The return of recently left posters would also be a boon.

So would I. That's something I've always advocated, but it will never happen.

I believe this message board is currently in far and away the worst state it's ever been in, and it's now a complete and utter shambles. CCMB is dominated by two deranged individuals who seem to have nothing better to do with their lives than continually post divisive rubbish on here, and there are a number of other cowardly morons who keep reappearing under various different usernames in order to disrupt pretty much every thread. Meanwhile, the board's one and only regular moderator isn't in any way fit for the role.

It's a shame, as CCMB used to be great fun and it had a significant number of decent contributors, but it's gone from bad to worse in recent years. Standards have slowly but very surely plummeted and it's reached the stage where most of the best posters have already left, and the remainder are posting less and less often.

I think the time has come for this particular section of CCMB to become a dedicated football-only message board. All other subjects should be either discussed in another part of the forum, or the threads concerning anything else should be instantly deleted.

CCMB is on its knees and desperately needs to change. Mike has a decision to make, because it can't carry on like it is now.

It would be a mistake to have a football-only forum imo - or even one with strict parameters of what subjects are posted.
The other board tried this and quickly reverted to a mish-mash of threads. There must have been a reason for this and I would suspect it was a drop in views and replies - I for one wouldn't want to be switching from one forum to another all the time.
I agree that another Mod would be a good idea - simply to share the load, and it makes sense for it to be someone who is not working and available during the daytime - though they wouldn't/couldn't be modding all the time, of course.
I also suggest that the guidelines of use be reviewed, highlighted and applied.

It starts to look a little different when you factor in the changes to the lives of children and young people in general. An overreliance on technology is not necessarily a good thing, and many parents have already given up. We won't know the true costs for many years to come.

Message board personas can be deceptive. I've met TBG on a number of occasions and he seems like a jolly chap.

Thanks for all the comments.

I've merged politics, alternative and welsh forums. So we just have two now.

So if we get a thread directly on politics, religion etc, it has a place to be moved to so some things can still be discussed without spoiling the main board. If something is inappropriate or offensive it will be deleted as usual. And if a thread get's hi-jacked please alert me so it can be moderated sooner.

The general feeling I get is that we need the main board to be more like it was, and not chopped up. I think that is the way to go.

We can't afford to take the humour out of the board but we have to take out the personal attacks, digs and trouble-makers.
