Need help on a bit of City history mate. Bit of a story, I’ve got a young lad working for me and he loves me giving him renditions of old City Grange End songs. (God knows why:hehe:), anyway one is from years ago, ‘Ha Ha Ha, Hee, Hee, Hee Palace missed a penalty’ (it was still penalty then, not pelanty). The game was Boxing Day 1966, it did backfire on us singing that though as we got beat 2-1 and then lost at Selhurst Park the very next day. The young lad keeps asking me ‘C’mon then who missed the Palace penalty?’. Gareth Williams scored our goal but I can’t find the name of the Palace penalty misser anywhere................Please don’t ruin things though and tell me that they never had a pen in that game, I’ll have to lie to him and just pluck a name out of the Palace line up, he won’t have a clue how to prove me wrong........but there’s the nagging doubt that he knows:sherlock:

Re: FAO Eric
I remember him in the 70's but yes, it probably is a bit early for him, I guess he could have spanned the decades.Originally posted by Rock_Flock_of_Five View PostWithout doing any research, I'm going to say 1966 would have been way too early for Alan Whittle.
Didn't Whittle play about a decade later?
He had strikingly white white hair which is probably the only reason why he popped into my head.
Eric must've had a lay (lie) in :hehe:

Re: FAO Eric
It might need a trip to the records office to look it up in the Echo for definite.
Tom White and Terry Long scored in the second half for Palace. Gregg Farrell was sent off for City, one of only 2 red cards across all 4 divisions that day.
In the return fixture, Barry Dyson scored a penalty for Palace.

I suppose you could check other palace games that season to see if Dyson took most of the penaltiesOriginally posted by Eric the Half a Bee View PostIt might need a trip to the records office to look it up in the Echo for definite.

Re: FAO Eric
Out of those names, I’d say KemberOriginally posted by splott parker View PostPalace team was; John Jackson, Sewell, Long, Payne, Stephenson, Bannister, Robertson, Kember, White, Woodruff, Cliff Jackson.
It couldn’t have been Bobby Woodruff, who later played for and stayed in Cardiff? Surely not.

Was that Boxing Day game the one where Greg Farrell was sent off for knocking out one of their players in front of the ref?Originally posted by splott parker View PostNeed help on a bit of City history mate.
