Moore, like a good striker should do, makes things happen, gets involved, doesn’t give defenders a minute. Glatzel may have finished well on the odd occasion but he’s got no ooomph, no idea of taking the game by the scruff of the neck, not a chance that he’d pile into the defenders making his presence felt. It must have been a mop of the brow and a “Thank f*ck for that” by opposing defenders on the occasions Moore was taken off to be replaced by Glatzel. For the money he cost his effort, laid back persona and general contribution was abysmal. I can’t agree with the apologists who give you the ‘its the way we play that didn’t suit him’ excuses, as a £5.5m striker, or whatever it was, we were looking at him to dictate the way we play. Just didn’t have the arse for the battle in my opinion, very disappointing.

Glatzel you give him the ball to his feet in the 18 yard box and he'll score.

He's not the sort of striker to go battling. I bet Chopra wouldn't get into double figures in this team.

I've compared him to Bamford numerous times on here. Bamford would look shit if he spent all day running round pressing the team, running onto balls into channels and having a wrestle with someone stronger like all other strikers have had to do.

Leeds get the ball to him and he hits the target. Not 100% Glatzel's fault that the midfield cannot create chances here but Glatzels attributes suggest to me that he'll never make it here.

Glatzel obviously has never played at such a physical level, i don't think that defending at the level he was at in Germany was up to much, and the level of play. He's not the best, lacks strength and his touch on times was awful, often the ball bounced off him. His biggest problem was that he couldn't adapt to the physicality, although he did Try.

As for Moore, i wouldn't say that he's that physical, he uses his height, but he doesn't 'pile into defenders' he's a bit better than that in my opinion.

Agree with your post except the touch bit. Think he has a very good touch just muscled out of it too often

Apart from Leeds and Plymouth, how many sides play with this type of striker now?

Do we give Warnock credit for identifying strikers who fit into a different system (first Decordova-Reid then Glatzel) or criticise him for spending big money on players he didn't know how to use, quickly didn't want to use and never looked to bring in a midfield/full-backs which would give them the best chance of success?

I agree that our main hope now is that Glatzel scores several in Germany which would give us greater options over the summer.

Bamford is technically much better than Glatzel. I cant see how you can compare the 2

Good players however bad the side is would at least show something. Glatzels touch is poor. Hes quite good at retrieving it from a poor first touch.

Glatzel joins the long list of strikers not good enough. 5.5 m down the drain. Awful signing.

He doesn’t pile into defenders, I didn’t say that of Moore, I said he doesn’t give defenders a minute. I mentioned the piling into defenders in Glatzel’s description emphasising that it’s just one of the many attributes he hasn’t got, he’s too nice. Perhaps our coaching wasn’t up to the mark in toughening the bugger up, he was here long enough to add aggression to his armoury or perhaps his timid ness is too ingrained. He flattered to deceive a good few times.

I think it's proof that the Bundesliga 2 is quite a way behind the standard of the top of the Championship.

I don't know what you'd do with Glatzel. If you get the ball out of his feet, 10 yards from goal he's going to score but how often does that happen a season? Well, 11 times in 58 games perhaps :hehe:. He isn't completely awful but God knows how you'd play him over here. I don't think you can. He's not strong, he's not quick, his movement isn't that good, he's not a great passer and he can't hold the ball up. You're running out of things for him to do!

Moore is absolutely fantastic. Apart from pure finishing (and he's good at that, too), I think he's far better at everything. The goal on Saturday was different class, brilliant hold up play, clever pass, ran 40 yards to get to the far stick and a great header. I think he's been our best signing in years.

We could debate whether he's any good until the cows come home but at the end of the day we all agree it's clear his time is up here and need to recoup as much money for him as possible.

Bamford is better but they are similar sorts of players. Bamford can't play with his back to goal like Moore does.

We could debate whether he's any good until the cows come home but at the end of the day we all agree it's clear his time is up here and need to recoup as much money for him as possible.

For him to even look half decent would require changing at least 5 other players that sit behind him.

I think recouping money is unlikely. Its a case of saving on his wages.

Luckily its only a 3 year deal.

Before? He's played nearly 200 games in the top flight in the PL or LL and has played for Betis. I think he's done OK :hehe:

What style would Glatzel suit? He's not good enough. I'd rather have Moore in any style.

Just the 116 La Liga appearances & 4 Spain Under 21 caps before signing for us, utter rubbish...

He's had injury problems since leaving us & Hodgson wasn't a fan but he still managed 18 top flight appearances before doing his cruciate

Yes and let's hope that as we improve we venture into a higher press and develop a central attacking option. We've got the players but before we do that we must cure the comedy defending which, to be fair, we've made a good start at.

Exactly. Had to double take when I read that. Established La Liga player is apparently a dud cause Roy couldn't fit him in his side :hehe: some of the things I read on here makes me question if people watch football
