  • What's wrong with Colwill?

Just watched Mark Hudson ruling Colwill out for Sunday. Apart from some vague stuff about growing pains and "a slip" while training on his first fay back after the international break, there's been nothing I'm aware to explain why he only seems to play for his country these days.

Colwill's twenty now and I'm old enough to remember when you used to get seventeen and eighteen year olds playing regular first team football for us, yet I can never recall any of them missing games through growing pains.. You would have thought the young John Toshack might have been a candidate for them, but he'd played around a hundred and sixty games and scored something like eighty goals for us by the time he was the age Colwill is now.

Maybe our board thinks of him in terms of he’s our golden egg, and instead of showcasing him they’re protecting him, just a thought.

Has it never crossed anyones mind that he might, just might, be injured ? Just a thought.

From Hudson's press conference yesterday " Rubin unfortunately has not been able to complete a full session. He has a protocol to get him back to the field of play and he hasn’t completed that. We’ll monitor that over the next few days. He is important to us and we could do with him back". Sounds like he's not match fit to play tbh.

Not looking good for his World Cup chances then, we play in 5 weeks.

Protecting him from what though? Like Pep nurtured Foden, you mean (I wish! :-) )

It does all seem rather odd that he is always injured. I really hope that he doesn’t have something seriously wrong with him that is going to derail his career. :-(

For me takes too many risky options for a WC squad

Clubs protect players better these days than years ago, to hopefully prolong their careers. They don’t give them so many cortisone injections. Too often past generations were finished before they reached 30 years of age.

                    That's a weakness he has, his decision-making isn't great.

Some players are really prone to injury and Colwill might be one of them. Of course there are many theories but being injury prone is probably the most likely in my view.

What does that mean though? Managers talk gobbledygook these days - I’ve not got a clue as to why Colwill hasn’t played for us since the international break because we’ve not been told anything about the nature of his injury.

Totally agree. I've given up trying to understand what's wrong with him. They'll be talking about optics and metrics soon and may as well give their press conferences in Klingon.

Do they have to get him in the building first before he can go on the grass?
