He's quite well-known after free soloing El Capitan in Yosemite a few years back. It's fascinating how these guys are wired. I understand the climbing bit, nice views, fresh air, a bit of exercise, but I just don't get the without a rope part.

Alex Honnold is a professional adventure rock climber whose audacious free-solo ascents of America’s biggest cliffs have made him one of the most recognized and followed climbers in the world.

Thought I recognised him from somewhere... yes they must be made of different stuff to want to climb without ropes!

Long time watcher of Magnus here, loved the video with Alex, you could definitely tell he was on his limit mentally while Alex is just out for his daily stroll, nutter. Magnus mostly does bouldering (very small walls) and fitness challenges now after being a professional climber so free soloing is definitely out of his comfort zone.

I actually went climbing once, made a complete tit of myself, safer watching it on YouTube.

I watched the Oscar winning documentary film, it's pretty good.

A good friend of mine plus his friend died on the Matterhorn. An already fixed piton failed & they both fell hundreds of feet. He’d given up motorcycle road racing as he wanted a new adrenaline challenge. Very sad.
