  • Where do they get these people?

    Radio 5 live

Brian Flynn , Nev , Earnie

A great chat about Welsh football on the national airwaves

They bring in a lass from Caerphilly who talks about a sense of belonging and community in supporting Wales

And then she tells the masses .....she's a fecking " lifelong " .......its always lifelong ....Liverpool fan

I was losing the will to live after that , it's spoilt my afternoon

Give it a rest ffs, shes entitled to support who she wants. No different to you supporting Cardiff City when you are originally from Neath (Which is nearer Swansea). Freedom of choice.

              I mean there's quite a big difference.
Caerphilly - Liverpool = 167 miles, approx 4 hours drive
              Neath - Cardiff = 43 miles, approx 45 mins?

You also don't pass multiple teams playing a high standard of football between Neath and Cardiff. In fairness, you don't normally find one when you get to Cardiff, but you get my point.

Understand where you're coming from though and each to their own, I've never been a fan of plastics like her, but my thoughts are that if you actually go to the games on a fairly regular basis then who am I to judge. If you just watch on TV or go once a year and describe yourself as a hardcore supporter, that's different. Because football is football because of the fans, and it would die with everyone shouting at their TV's.

I don't regard someone from Caerphilly who supports Liverpool as a fan

Someone from Caerphilly who supports Lincoln City because their father was born there and took them there as a kid ....

                  That's a fan 👏

These glory seekers just hang on the coat tails of the successful clubs and they are not fans

They should naff off to America and watch a franchise

I agree to a point but lots of these so-called fans will say that their fathers took them to Anfield as a kid.

If someone from Caerphilly supports Liverpool and is up there every other week then they're a fan in my book but it's the ones who say they're a lifelong fan and watch them on sky every week that annoy me.

The point is Sludge choose Cardiff over Swansea even though Swansea are his local club (of a high standard) because Cardiff, at the time, were the more succesful club. It doesnt mater if its 45 minutes or 3 hours by his logic thats glory hunting.

I know a fella from Merthyr who goes to every Liverpool game, home and away, Euoprean games, pre-season tours, the lot. He is more commited to supporting his team than 99.99% of Cardiff City fans, including Sludge, who is a part time supporter these days. To suggest that this guy is a plastic and "not a real fan" is utterly laughable.

The City fans that travel down 200 miles from Holyhead and North Wales, passing many Welsh teams they could support, are they plastics and glory hunters too?

Sludges logic on this matter is full of contradiction and has proven to be flawed time and time again.

I would rather have a chat about football with the female Liverpool fan from Caerphilly than Sludge, he hasnt got a scooby.

Wasn't he the same bloke who took some stick on here after commenting about having tickets in the City end during the PL year?

Yeah maybe he should be a fan of Swansea but still I do think there's a big difference those two examples and maybe he had ties on top of the geography. They'd have been his second-closest club rather than godknows-closest.
I don't know anyone travelling from Holyhead to Cardiff, I'd have thought they would be better off supporting Wrexham from the get-go unless they have ties to the club. But if they're mental enough to do that then yeah obviously they're fans.

As above personally, I think if someone is prepared to put in the mileage on a regular basis then that's fair enough. It's the ones who claim to be lifelong, dedicated fans, but when you dig a bit deeper they've been to anfield on a tour once for a special birthday, that get on my nerves.

Im from the valleys predominantly Cardiff also Swansea. I want Swansea to lose every game but still enjoy a chat with their fans.

                            See them as genuine fans.

You talk about similar things , the ups the downs the laughs the days out. Getting up early after a heavy Friday night for a trip way.

Then u have the Liverpool fan in the pub.

                            Boring feckers.
