Spotify question.

I’ve got about 1.5 k tracks on my Favourite Spotify play list, but only about two thirds of them are ever available when I listen to it. It’s not an imported list, it’s one I’ve compiled myself on Spotify, but that’s no guarantee they’ll be there quite soon afterwards. I know some artists withdraw their permission for Spotify to occasionally, but today I checked on an Elvis Costello track that is no longer available on my playlist, but it was there for me to play when I searched for it.

It’s not as if I’m downloading all those tracks for nothing - I pay Spotify a tenner a month. Any ideas why I can’t play tracks that I have, to a degree, paid for from my playlist?

Seems unusual if you're paying a monthly subscription.
It could well be that Spotify themselves are not paying for the rights to the artists material and it's being withdrawn, that's about the only reason I can think of.
Might be worth messaging them and querying it Bob.
Have you tried deleting the track and then re-adding it? I know they sometimes move stuff around and get tech problems so as silly as it sounds, it might me that you re-add it and it works again. Worth checking just in case.

Not had that problem, but when I do get problems with Spotify I reinstall the app and that usually does the trick.

I've got a shed load of music on my CD COLLECTION on my hard drive.In fact I've backed them up on two other hard drives.
It takes a bit bit longer to find the C>D I want to play.But hey,I paid once I'm not paying again.
I know Amazon prime other trials of up to three months.Which you can cancel anytime.

It might be that the version of the track you added to the Favourites list is no longer available, but the version you searched for still is, particularly if the version on the Favourites playlist came from a Various Artists complication.
So, for example, ‘Oliver’s Army’ might be on an Elvis Costello album (or ‘Best Of’), but also on a Various Artists compilation. The compilation may only have the track for a finite time, but you’d expect it to be always be on the Elvis Costello albums.

Thanks everyone forthe replies (even Gluey!). I think you’re right about what’s happened to me, there’s about fifteen Beatles tracks that have gone which all came from when they were remastered a few years back. I went on theSpotify Help forum and found a question from somebody asking the same as me last year and they were told that there’s no easy fix, you just have to “reinstall” all of the lost tracks.

I went on theSpotify Help forum and found a question from somebody asking the same as me last year and they were told that there’s no easy fix, you just have to “reinstall” all of the lost tracks.

That'd be easy for Spotify to help fix as they could propose another version of the unavailable tracks. They must know what's taken off and what's being put on.

Good that you found the reason though. I was wondering if you were playing songs offline. I know there's a time when you have to logon again to keep them available but I was wondering if you'd downloaded them at different times and some of them had "expired" and others not. Then again, Spotify might update the stop playing dates for all downloaded tracks according to the last login for all I know.

your first mistake is subscribing to spotify - an organisation that gives nish back to the artist. Artists typically need something like 10,000 plays to earn a £1. The fewer people who subscribe the better for the music industry as a whole.

Get downs to kelly's records or Spillers and give something back to the music industry.

It is surprising that someone who espouses left leaning values would engage with such a filthy industry killing company. talk is cheap.

You'd think they'd be able to do something to fix it, but it seems not. I've listened to Spotify offline before and noticed that plenty of tracks on my playlist were unavailable, but there were more of them than there are when I'm logged in.

Could it also be that they don't have the rights for the UK?

I know that this is the case with YouTube in that some videos can't be shown to users outside the EU.

I'm not after a bite, if you're serious about music you don't use spotify. Its for ***** who think nothing of the musicians whose music they are listening to.
