Qatar have reversed its decision on the sale of alcohol in stadiums
    What a load of bollocks
We’re all flying off to Tenerife tomorrow afternoon for a week
    I’m sure we’ll have a better time
I hope Budweiser Sue FIFA and get some of their $60 million dollars sponsorship back

Disappointed for the fans who are going. Alcohol isn't the be all and end all, but it's going to be shit over there.
It's the only tournament (and I hope it never happens again) where I can hand on heart say I'm glad i'm watching it on TV

Qatar bans the sale of beer at stadiums.

Baffling. Just a few days before the tournament starts and they would’ve already bought all the supplies. They're also going against FIFA who forced Brazil to sell alcohol in their stadiums.

      Shitshow all round.

Do you have any proof that they already bought the supplies, and they weren't in on the con?

Is it a case of bait and switch now that they have already got all the money in? It sounds very dodgy to me

They've had 12 years to make that decision and they wait until 48 hours before it starts.
And you can still get alcohol in the hospitality boxes!

This decision does not surprise me one iota.

They are paranoid that the control they have will be undermined with the nationals picking up the "bad habits" of the liberal west.

Attending this WC never appealed to me.
Not sure I can be arsed to even watch it with a crowd and a beer let alone pay a kings ransom to be herded like sheep.

I feel sorry for those who travelled and I can see many staying in Dubai whose plans were to jet in and out of Qatar for the matches not even bothering.

Why would they want to rock the boat?
Better to let everyone believe one thing and do another last minute.

I imagine Budweiser, who have paid something ridiculous like £60m to be the tournament beer, would’ve noticed if a couple days before the tournament started Qatar hadn’t purchased any booze off of them.

Qatar will reimburse them and some, money is not an issue.

They couldn't be more unpopular in the worlds' eyes so why not renege on their promises

I'd be pretty pissed off if i was there without the beer but I'd be pretty scared if I was there and gay.

This sounds the more likely scenario to me.

Re: Ban on Alcohol in stadiums

                          Qatar is a backward country
We all know that corruption and fat brown envelopes bought them this World Cup
It’s all an embarrassing disgrace !!

This is further embarrassment for FIFA.

I'm a bit surprised that buying a beer in the stadium was ever on the cards. You couldn't at Euro2016 - or is my memory playing tricks on me?. The difference being of course that at Euro2016 there were any number of options for a nice drink pre or post match, whereas Qatar you'll be treated to some horribly expensive crap in a fanzone or in a high end hotel bar - if you're lucky.
