  • 5 at the back

Seriously, wtf is it with managers thinking it's smart to go 5 at the back?
This is literally baffling the shit out of me.

Firstly the obvious, being over-run in midfield!
    It's never good obviously!

Secondly, it's obviously far too defensive.
How do you expect to score with less players in midfield?

It's bonkers to me and I don't get it.
I tend to think that any manager that sets up with 5 at the back is lacking ambition and confidence.
    More in midfield gaffer, ffs.

I said in the match thread, Pages negative tactics will cost us. We were lucky against Ukraine in the playoff. We have to believe we are good enough in games like this, Fck the little old Wales bullshit

But we got a song about 5 at the back - if the fans think it's good it must be the way to go??

It’s there to cover for Rambo and Bale. It wasn’t so bad when we drew with Belgium and completely outplayed Austria. We are struggling because our two best players are undercooked and over the hill. Bale looks completely gone, let’s hope it’s just rust

It's 3 at the back. Problem this evening was that our wing backs couldn't get out and play. They're pivotal in how we play. The first half was like watching a Steve Morison side. 2nd half changed simply because the ball stuck up front, allowing players to get into advanced positions. Rodon is a bit thick, isn't he. Got pulled in a few times, and whenever i see him he's making those stretching last ditch challenges that look brilliant and get fans creaming, yet it speaks to me of a Defender who puts himself in poor positions and has to play catch up. Ampadu is sometimes guilty of it when he plays in midfield.

Rodon was awful tonight. He’s just not got any awareness and he was horrifically wasteful in possession. Compare that to Ben Davies who has an extra yard in his head.

We set up like we were playing England.
Definitely should’ve been more positive in the first half

Jacks got 12 million for him! They did something similar with that barrel of shit, Alfie Mawson-Wasn't it £ 20 million? Now at wycombe aged 28. Fair play to Swansea.

Rodon might have kicked on a bit if he didn’t waste two years in the stands at Spurs. He’s so rash. He should have kicked Pulisic ten feet in the air when he got rolled too. He has to get there both times. He’s got way too tight on Sargent so he has to foul him, and then foul Pulisic if he doesn’t. Oh well, got away with one. The Jacks are good in the market, got 30+ for James and McBurnie

Yeah, Rodon not fouling Pulisic on halfway when we got done in exactly that scenario late against the Dutch was really poor, you could see that goal coming the second he got turned by Sargent. Complete lack of situational awareness.
