The unbelievable fact about Gazza was ‘adulterer’. I know some women fall at the feet of any top footballer but Gazza, sheesh!!!!!:hehe:

Isn’t it odd how we respond to the same event in such different ways. It’s why I have always hated them with a passion!!

If he was playing today, he would have had all three attributes that you mentioned. He was also more intelligent than todays over paid Prima Donnas.

CR7 is such a shit way to describe someone, it could be Christian Roberts.

In the eyes of plenty of Argentinians he has to win a world cup if he is to surpass Maradona.

Just caught up on this thread as the Pele title didn't exactly draw me in. Turned out to be a blinder. Still don't know who CR7 is. These Star Wars enthusiasts should get a f*cking room.

Indeed. I just wanted him to do well, wherever he went. And that meant Liverpool doing well. It was an easy enough adoption process — that Toshack-Keegan thing was a joy. And then, of course, the great Bill Shankly was gold.

Not just plenty of Argentinians, this Welshman as well.

                          Never understood this.

If Burrachaga/valdano had missed in 1986 and Higuain had scored in 2014, which are both completely plausible, then world cup wins would be reversed without maradona or messi doing anything different at all.

Is that really the difference between them?

He still can’t take a decent corner though !

Nice. 1 and a half pages to turn a discussion about a legendary footballer into a shit slinging contest between posters

Anyways, Pele for me was the greatest of his time. Of the modern game, it's a tough call but I'd put Ronaldo ahead of Messi. He's done better in more countries and for worse teams.
Although a step below those 2, I'd give Ibrahimović a spot in top 5 players of the modern game. I think he gets over looked because of his nationality but his longevity and goal scoring record wherever he goes is all but unmatched.
