Getting to see The Specials live in ‘09 was fantastic. I was much too young to see them in their pomp so it was wonderful to enjoy myself when the band got back together. They were amazing live.

      Re: Terry Hall has died.

Always had a soft spot for Coventry

Had a mate who was at college there , used to go to the general Wolfe for bands

Very scruffy run down place in many ways but had a lot of charm

Always liked in when the other ccfc would do a last minute escape act and stay up in what was the old first division

Highfield Road was a good atmosphere

Wonder if TH and his crew ever went ?

Sad to also read that Martin Duffy, keyboard player with both Primal Scream and The Charlatans, has died aged 55.
He only joined The Charlatans after their previous keyboard player died in a car crash near the Rockfield studios in 1996.

Yep, he replaced Rob Collins in The Charlatans.
          More sad news that.

Very sad. I saw him with The Colourfield at Cardiff Uni in 1985. The music was pitched somewhere between OMD and The Style Council but that melancholic voice still drew you in.

              Re: Terry Hall has died.

I'm at that age where my teen hero's are starting to pop their cloggs and the story saying "after a brief illness" isn't helping.
              RIP Terry

this post is non football...i've reported myself

The other famous Terry Hall, Of Lenny the Lion fame, passed away a few years ago but, coincidentally, died in Coventry.

Listening to a lot of two tone this afternoon , some very clever crossover sounds

I was only 13 when it was popular , I wonder if the multi racial community vibe of the music spread from Coventry to Cardiff , Newport etc ?

Must have been a great time to be 16 or 17

That music was part of my soundtract of the times. I left school, at 16 in 1980 with limited prospects spending the next 2 years on the dole or government work schemes (Ł23.50pw). Ghost Town was a perfect record that reflected the times and how I felt.

I listened to an interview with The Specials TH yesterday and he said that as they lived in the same area the local tax office mixed up their accounts some years ago. They asked him why he hadn't declared earnings on his summer season in Blackpool

Terry Hall was a match going Man United supporter. Moved to Manchester to be closer to Old Trafford.
