You thought Cardiff had a designated cycle network earlier in the thread, no sign of it in that picture. Nasty little stretch by there. A narrow cycle lane suddenly disappears and the cyclist is left to deal with traffic pulling out of Ninian Park Road with no regard for them followed by an often blocked left hand lane which is so narrow there's no way of making progress (due to the cycle lane having disappeared). If you then want to go straight on you have to pray the cars turning left into Sloper Road have seen you, once the lights go green there it's like the start of a grand prix. Horrible. I've weaved into middle lane there when the lights are red to try and avoid some of the problems, maybe that's what the poor guy tried to do the other day and paid the ultimate price.

Ironically, the Council had been planning to introduce cycle lanes between Wellington Street and Lawrenny Avenue - with that continuing through the Mill and into Ely. Someone didn't keep their side of the bargain though and that got scrapped so the Wellingon Street cycle lane still stops by Kitchener Road School and cyclists have to take their chances from there. Maybe the situation will be looked at again now. Random bike lanes here and there are no real encouragement for people to leave their cars at home if you're putting your life at risk trying to get from one to another.

Yep. I was texting my mate something similar when I was doing 80 down the A470.

Whilst driving up someone's arse after the 50 average camera where NOBODY seems to go to 70.

The inconsistency of the cycle lanes is a real problem, at various points they seem to run out and merge with motor traffic. Ive always thought that it’s a recipe for disaster. There must be a way of solving this, it’s quite evident that motor vehicles & push bikes don’t mix well. A consistent, definite separation would, hopefully, solve the problem of the inconsiderate factions in both camps.

If they are so desperate for people to use bikes they need to use their brains, don't reduce road space unless you have to, develop the taff trail, and provide safe routes to up from other parts of Cardiff. Consider using access alongside railway lines and straight routes into the City.

It will never catch on 24/7 though, as it's way too cold and wet in the winter and too wet most of the year except maybe June to the end of August.

The other problem is theft if do go out and decent bike £1,000 to £10,000 for some electric bikes, you couldn't really leave them anywhere out of sight as they'd be stolen in a minute, even the best locks are not safe as the thieves are using cordless angle grinders in plain sight.

:facepalm:Some day that was, on my way back from Fir Park after watching Riverside, a horse bolted, frightened by the flag some bugger was waving in front of a motorised contraption, ran straight across the cobbles towards me. My plus fours got caught in the spokes causing me to swerve into the bone shaker. Two days in the Sanatorium dosed up on cocaine........great days:xmasthumbup:

Slightly off topic , but cycling is not only good for physical exercise, it’s up there with one of the best pastimes for mental health. An hour a day on a bike can really lift one’s mood and sets you up nicely for the day.

Maybe a CCMB cycle ride will heal the wounds....

Serious question, do you consider it to be the right decision to push cyclists to ride on roads, or the wrong decision?

Article on Wales online about that bloke being hit by a much larger vehicle and being killed.

This decision always gets to me, I'll be honest. I honestly think it's bad both ways.
Firstly cyclists are at risk, and the mercy of dickhead drivers, and we know there's plenty of them on the roads...
On the flip side, cyclists are a right pain in the bollocks to motorists, especially when they get clever and weave between traffic etc...

Not a good move was this one as far as I'm concerned!

When I was a lad alloy listz rode on the road. They should ot be allowed o pavements/footpaths. They ride through the pedestrian areas in town a d are a menace. I e see polic stop them but the don't do it enough.
