Connor Whickham has today left FGR, 9 goals in 20 games in L1

we would be able to sign him as a free agent I believe

No idea how good he is now. Had a lot of injuries.

      A Championship team is interested

Even if he stayed fit for 10 games and scored a few, might mean we get some much needed points on the board

        Just what Warnock ordered.

It would mean that we couldn’t sign anyone else, as it would use the one vacancy left in the squad under the embargo rules.

          I think he’s worth a punt, he’s made 20 appearances this season.

I've watched FGR a few times this season, he's definitely a big lad who'd suit Warnock's style of play!
From what I've seen of him he's not much of a grafter and didn't seem to work himself too much - but what do I know!

              Surprised he’s still only 29

With a downward spiral like his, there’s got to be something amiss !

A player I've always admired and has the technical ability to grace the premier league. However, he's a walking sick note, made of china and that would be where the significant danger lies in signing a player like this. Slightly off topic but worth a mention, this is what can happen when you overplay a youngster in todays game. Broke through when he was 17 and given too much game time.At least we are not doing the same to Colwill.

Only just turned 16 when he made his debut and a regular the season after! Can't have helped his physical development

Didn't he go to Sunderland for about £10m as a teenager? Can't imagine that kind of money or pressure is good for a young man

Went to Palace for 9m too. He has earned a lot of money but he’s made of glass. Good player. Didn’t we try to sign him under Harris?

Or he was always going to be injury prone, that can also be the case?

It's interesting and I suppose it's how you look at it and what player you look at. I'm sure you are right for certain cases but for others it probably helped.

I'd be surprised if there are many cases of players considered good enough at their clubs at 17/18/19 that aren't in the team or loaned out. Thinking of the top players today most would have been regulars certainly by the time they are 19/20 and they are probably still developing physically.

Attacking players in particular seem to break through younger.

Colwill is 20 now. By that age Ramsey had gained some good experience here as a teenager and was a first team regular at Arsenal (club not really relevant, I'm also not comparing quality) at 19.

Every player is of course different and has their own unique circumstances.

Wickham could point to too much too young as it hasn't worked out how he had hoped. I'd also think if he was in the PL and fit he would put a fair amount of emphasis on the fact he got so much experience early on in his career.

There is probably a balance to be had.
