No point using that argument in a court of law Maurice, they'll be having none of it!
"The only difference is that one is stored on your hard drive, and the other isn't."
...but surely that is the whole point.....it is NOT downloaded and stored.

I would be interested in any case law that disproves this....!

      They are both downloaded though...
You download the data, either way.
If it's stored, it tends to be known as a download, if it's not, it's known as a stream. Either way though, you have downloaded that data, and therein lies their argument.

I'm like you, I see a stream as pretty innocent pickings really.
You're not copying it, recording it, passing it on or selling it...

      Sky Sports won't agree though

I still think this is a very grey area.....although further reading does enforce your view.....

Not sure if that has ever been tested in UK law.
        A definition of Downloaded is:

(of data) copied from one computer system to another, typically over the internet.
"DRM will limit what you can do with downloaded music and video"

        vis COPIED.....interesting legal point.

Sorry to be pedantic...but I spend a lot of time currently reviewing case law in a DWP Upper Tribunal that I am contesting....!!

'Copy' is the operative word = reproduction.

Whether streams are considered to be copies is another thing, as you say.

Not pedantic Maurice, it's a valid point that you make. As I say, I think it's pedantic for big companies to come after small fry for streaming a usually shitty quality football match.

Copied doesn't really come into it though, although that will make some difference in terms of how they approach it.

You don't have to copy anything.
If you stream a match, firstly, it is downloaded as pointed out previously. Secondly, Sky see it as theft, due to you illegally watching a game that they are charging for. That's the simple crux of it with Sky.

They're dependent on internet providers, who largely won't bother with someone streaming the odd match, VPN or no VPN.

Copying stuff is a whole other debate though.
If you're ripping all the latest new movies at a high quality, then they assume you're maybe burning DVD's and selling them, which is where you need VPN's and to prey they're not taking an interest!

A thread about 'copyright infringement' . You must have been salivating, whilst hastily typing. Old fruit.
