Re: Mark Mcguinness
I'm not wishing to be overly negative here, but are we guilty of pinning a lot of hope on someone who faded in his first season in the Championship and was so far from our disappointing first team last summer that we sent him on loan. It's true he's had a good season in the division below ours, but Max Watters scored goals in League 1 on loan and been utter gash with us in the Championship.
I get the feeling that, just because he's got a bit of height, that some are seeing him as the solution to all of our problems. Ultimately, at present, he's a good League 1 player. If he returns he's still got to force his way into our starting XI and, given that defence is the last of our worries, might he be better staying at Wednesday and having a full season under his belt, gaining confidence from a promotion push?

Our right back is out for 6 weeks. We have a right back playing centre half who can slot in there. Maguiness slots straight in at centre back.Originally posted by Eric the Half a Bee View PostWhy?
If wed seen that cup tie Sheff Weds where Maguiness got rave reviews and he wasnt our player and we bought him off Sheffield Weds most fans I believe would be delighted.
Hes ours I believe we are vulnerable at crosses and he will add a presence in both boxes (I know you dont appear to like us being good at set pieces🤣)
I dont think our back 4 is that good. I think we up defensively and as a team with Ralls and Wintle in front of our best back 4 we do ok. Now weve lost Romeo.
I am of course hoping Maguiness has improved and the fact Weds fans are raving about him I have hopes he will improve us. If he hasnt he will still be as good and maybe better than Nelson and miles better than Simpson.
My opinion a complete no brainer.

Re: Mark Mcguinness
He's not just a good League One player. He's the best player in probably the best side in the division. There's a difference between doing OK like Watters did and winning player of the month two times in a row, with every Wednesday fan saying he's the best centre half they've had in years. If he's going to start here, he should come back. At the very least, they should get him back for a few weeks to have a look at him, if he isn't going to play, back to Wednesday he goes.Originally posted by Eric the Half a Bee View PostI'm not wishing to be overly negative here, but are we guilty of pinning a lot of hope on someone who faded in his first season in the Championship and was so far from our disappointing first team last summer that we sent him on loan. My issue is that we're expecting McGuinness to be the answer to everything. We're expecting, on the back of one FA cup tie that he'll be the answer to our defensive woes. I couldn't give a shit if he had rave reviews in a one-off game. Anyone raving about a player after one game needs to look at the bigger picture. I've even read utter nonsense with someone claiming he could be our top scorer at the end of the season.
You don't think our back 4 is that good, but it's one of the better defences in the division. It's not our defence that is the reason we're towards the foot of the table.
I'd love it if McGuinness has improved. The fact that Wednesday are prepared to pay what they will is testament to how well he's done in the division below and the fact we might bring him back. It offers no suggestions of how well he could do for us. Bringing him back offers no certainties at all.

Re: Mark Mcguinness
But after the transfer window that is not an option. Why unsettle him? He's happy there, playing well and a full season with them might benefit us more next season.Originally posted by Pedro de la Rosa View PostHe's not just a good League One player. He's our player for goodness sake and if he's improved that much, which he appears to have, he will be a valuable asset to the team during a critical part of the season. As an earlier poster said, if he wasn't our player and we were signing him most of our fans would be delighted. Welcome back Mark I say.

The loaning out part made perfect sense at the time. Signing an inferior player didn't.Originally posted by City123 View PostIt was madness to loan him out and sign an inferior replacement anyway
