  • A poor display from a poor side

Just got back from the Millwall game (took me an hour, for some reason), and it was a dreadful game. Two poor sides, in fact, but Millwall had the good luck to be handed a goal by a sloppy defensive error. Returning hero McGuinness had a good game, and look very assured at the back. As for the rest of them, well, what can you say? Ng and O'Dowda played okay, Kipre gave away the goal, Wintle ran around a lot, and Robinson tried his best. The others - Philogene, Ojo, Etete, and Rinomhota were all poor.
Unless we recruit someone to lead the line, we are stuffed. Hugill could come back and do a job, but anyone in that mould would do it. Play Robinson and O'Dowda alongside him. Wintle, Ralls, and Another in the middle. We have to start scoring, and we have to stop giving away stupid goals.

Think Ralls has been one of our worst players this season, I really wouldn't start him going forward which is sad to say as I really am a fan of him but he's looked off for months. Don't think Rinomhota has actually looked that bad if at all, he's not a creative midfielder and never has been but he is a destroyer and the only one we have, problem is the rest of the team looks so bad so the bloke who isn't there to play a creative role gets exposed even more. Agree with Philogene, Ojo and Etete though.

The lack of ruthlessness in the team is the only thing really costing us, we aren't defensively as bad as our position suggests.

The main problem with Joe Ralls is that he is so one footed that his right leg may just as well be a wooden one. As a consequence he takes so long to get the ball on to his left foot he is either tackled or is facing the wrong way to get a decisive pass away. He is also not blessed with natural pace so can`t readily recover the ball after losing it.

Must admit I've never been a big fan of Ralls. We seem to hire a lot of midfielders who flatter to deceive, running around but not contributing much, and Ralls seems to fall into this category. He's had good spells in the past, but nor recently.
That said, he's better than the current alternatives, who are all woefully inconsistent.

Ralls & Wintle are a large part of the reason for our good defensive record, they provide our defence with a great deal of protection that isn't there when Rinomhota plays

Ralls & Wintle shield the back four, but neither has a great pass in them. Ralls signature lob over the full-back worked perfectly for Warnockball but we lack pace now, and Wintle is a great continuity passer but rarely anything key.

They are fine if we have genuine attacking wingbacks (343) and three decent offensive players in front of them but we only have Robinson; or 4 in front of them in a 4231, again we only have Robinson.

We started the season with Watters and Harris as our 9's, how crazy is that.

It’s very odd especially when you think Morison went straight out to get Hugill and the big lad at Boro last Jan. he obviously had faith in a new style.

Just seemed odd as his January signing of the boro striker whose name I can’t spell was clearly, he’s another option.

We also started the season with Collins and Romeo, two very good wing backs. What a shame they are injured. Collins looked the dog's gonards.
