  • Superbowl

Anyone else a fan of the NFL?
I'm not a hardcore fan, but have always taken an interest in the Superbowl for as far back as I can remember.
I have a soft spot for the 49ers, great team back in the 80's with Montana and Rice.
They're away to the Philadelphia Eagles tonight, 8pm our time I think.
It could be a great story, the 49ers' quarter-back was the very last pick, commonly know as 'Mr Irelevant'...
Since he's stepped up, they've been unbeaten.

Going to be a great Superbowl either way, the Chiefs take on the Bengals in the other "semi-final".

    I like the NFL.

Was one of those people that dismissed it back in the day but if you take time to get to know the rules and realise the level of athlete that play the game it is one of the best sports to watch. So many aspects to the game played by somw of the fastest, strongest and best athletes on the planet.

I like the Vikings. Made the play offs but the chickens were always going to come home to roost with one of the worst defences in the NFL.

I'm not a big fan of US sports. They seem to be tailored for the advertising and not so much the sport. I know it's not great in Europe either but the US have taken it to another level.
      Enjoy the game tho

I can watch baseball at a push , it's certainly less boring for me than cricket

But American football and basketball and ice hockey I would rather listen to some music

My team were the Dolphins way back to the early 70s. They had some great players at that time, as did Chicago and the Packers. Sadly they've given me very little to cheer about for some years now.

Dolphins were also great in the 80's/90's, Dan Marino was one hell of a quarter-back.

                  I am interested

You might have worked in miami , spent time on holiday , liked the mascot

I was just wondering what makes British sports fans support a particular superbowl team

I mean we know why kids in South Wales support Liverpool......its because they are good

I used to watch the games on american TV and I had an american buddy who used to explain the calls to me. He was a 'Dolphin' so we usually watched their games. You get attached to a team.
But they were good then. They broke every record in the book in '72

I hope the Bengals win it, apart from a Super Bowl appearance under Boomer when they were blitzed by the 49ers they have had a very lean time of it over the years, Eagles to win the Nfc

Been a 49er fan since 1984, been to a couple of games over the years. Very tough ask to win in Philadelphia tonight but should be a good watch, as should the Bengals Chiefs game.

                              Re: Superbowl

I like the NFL, I never have the attention span to watch a whole game but I'm going to pop it on the iPad and keep an eye on this evening's games. I don't understand all of the plays but seeing a long throw for a touchdown is a thrill. And the presentation and passion from the ex players and presenters is entertainment in itself

I like a bit of baseball too but there can be long periods where little happens.

Basketball is a bit Chuckles Brothers (to me to you) but I did go to a Brooklyn v Washington game in New York a few years ago and really enjoyed the experience.

NHL doesn't really entertain me. But I did enjoy watching the Devils (although I've not been to see them since they moved down the bay)
